Teachers, administrators and students of the international boarding school in Mill Village will host a meet and greet Sunday at the Riverbank General Store and Cafe.
The DEVI School opened this fall and is currently home to 27 students from 13 different countries, said spokesperson Mary Kuhn.
Students and staff meditate daily and “learn the essence of all faiths, following the teachings of world-renowned spiritual leader and teacher Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi,” according to the school’s website.
The facility is located at the old Mill Village Consolidated School, which Region of Queens Municipality sold to the DEVI International Boarding School Society for $1 earlier this year.
“Things are going really well,” said Kuhn, a Liverpool resident who previously lived in Mill Village for about 10 years.
“This meet and greet is an idea that we’ve had from the very beginning,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to engage with the community, primarily Mill Village and Charleston, but people from Liverpool and Port Medway and other places are welcome, too.”
The meet and greet will take place between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29. The Riverbank General Store and Cafe is located at 8 Medway River Rd. in Mill Village.
