Sarah Mitton of Brooklyn has been named female athlete of the week for the University of Windsor Lancers after a stellar showing at the Feb. 23-24 Ontario University Athletics championships.
“Sarah had a great showing at the provincial championships, contributing 20 points to the Lancers’ overall team total and helping the Lancers bring home a team silver,” said a post on the university’s athletics website. “In the women’s shot put, Sarah placed first overall with a throw of 16.82 m, and then followed that up the next day with a gold medal performance in the weight throw with a toss of 16.47 m.”
Mitton holds the University of Windsor’s all-time record in women’s shot put. Last year, she won a Canada Games gold medal and turned in a top 10 finish at the World University Games.
A graduate of Liverpool Regional High School, Mitton was named Nova Scotia’s junior athlete of the year in 2014.
