In a live speech on state television Monday night, Maduro brandished what he claimed was a US passport and two people’s SIMs, along with what he said was their identity card for Silvercorp, a Florida-based security services company.
Maduro also showed what he said was a photo of the two men after they were arrested, and accused the couple of playing “Rambo” in a failed attack intended to remove him.
The footage posted on Maduro’s official Twitter account shows several unknown men on board with hands in the air and helicopters overhead. The people on the ship could not be identified in one video, but separate photos more clearly depicted two people Maduro claimed were Americans.
Goudreau identified Americans as Airan Berry and Luke Denman, whose names match those on the Silvercorp ID displayed by Maduro. Goudreau, a former US Army Green Beret, said the two men were fellow former Special Forces members like himself.
