O Britain. Only in a country with the worst roads and worst weather can its citizens be consistently plump for a) sportier suspension setups and b) convertibles. Welcome to a car made mostly for British tastes. New BMW 4 Series Convertible.
By default, it comes here in the M Sport specification, with the optional M Sport ‘Pro Edition’ in the next step. And the 4 Series Convertible has the new flagship – at least before the arrival of the M4 Convertible – in the shape of the M440i xDrive.
We should talk about the M440i xDrive because it got 369bhp and drives four wheels through an eight wheel gearbox. Like the (current) Fast 4 Cabrio, it can go from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a maximum of 155mph. BMW says the M440i’s performance is “respectable on the racetrack”, including the M Sport difference, 19s, adaptive suspension and red M brakes.
Other engines are available if hotfooting around the racetrack in the convertible is not really your bag. There are 420i, 430i, 420d, 430d, and twin-turbo M440d (delivers 516lb of torque and 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds). The 30D and 40D diesel will be available from July 2021.
What’s more, it’s slightly longer and wider than the previous 4 Series convertible and gets a fabric roof 40 percent lighter than its metal predecessor (PU), which can open or close in 31 seconds to 18 seconds. The front seat sits the size of a pair of vertical grills… perfectly rational and reasonable, along with a large air intake and full LED freakin laser lights.
The side profile looks clean, the back is “slim”, the dark lights extend into the ‘L’ shaped sides. Speaking of shape, BMW claims to have added extra bracing to help keep the body in shape, with the aluminum sheer panel under the front end and the side skirts with a “high torsion look”.
According to 3 salon inside it, there are many options to empty your pockets, driver assistants and a lot of connectivity.
“Sharper than its predecessor and echoes the bold style of the BMW 4 Series coupe. BMW.
In the UK, prices have risen from 7 45,785 (for the 420i rear-drive M Sport car) to 6 59,645 for the M440i xDrive.
