The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is ordering all schools to close and switch to online and remote learning due to the growing COVID-19 cases in Windsor and Essex County.
“Due to the rapid growth of COVID-19 cases in Windsor and Essex County and the evidence of ongoing community transmission, I am issuing Section 22 orders under the Health Care and Promotion Act requiring all primary and secondary school students to go online./ Remote Learning effective Monday, December 14 Heath Medical Officer Dr Wajid Ahmed said News release, Thursday afternoon.
“The order will run for a week from December 14 to 18, bringing students into the school holiday break,” he said. “An extension of this order will be considered for COVID-19 epidemiological data for Windsor and Essex County.”

Dr Ahmed said measures were being taken “in an effort to keep our community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19”.
“WECHU is working with all school boards in Windsor and Essex County to make continuing learning a priority during the COVID-19 epidemic,” he said.
The health unit said the order would include the following:
- Schools will be closed for all students and individually, including before and after events
- Schools are open for educators and staff
- Schools are open only for day care full time
