While the Quebec government banned all gatherings for the New Year celebrations, the move did not prevent some people from meeting in the Parliament Hill area on Thursday evening, resulting in arrests and the distribution of 52 tickets.
The Service de Police de la Ville de Quebec (SPVQ) found in a press release on Friday that 46 indictments related to non-compliance with public health instructions, as well as five notices relating to municipal by-laws and the Highway Safety Code.
A man also received an arrest warrant and was taken into custody.
The rally was held on social networks and was attended by a large number of people outside the Quebec area on the night of December 31st.
While many citizens expressed their concerns about the incident, SPVQ went there to prevent illegal meetings.
“Finally, we noticed that the people who came to the scene split into many different groups,” SPVQ added.
