The Red Deer Rebels have found a very unique way to ensure that they follow health protocols, and therefore, their season in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Players of the Alberta List live in the arena.
The team takes advantage of the lack of spectators to turn the suites at Western Park Center into rooms for players.
“It’s important to make sure it’s the right thing, the right thing to do, to follow all the protocols and set-ups,” said Brent Sutter, general manager and head coach of the Rebels. Red Deer Advocate, Wednesday.
To make the experience more enjoyable for players, the Alberta Squad set up basketball hoops, spikeball nets and table tennis tables in the arena.
“We worked very hard to get there, but the players are excited to be here and most importantly start playing hockey again,” Sutter added.
The Rebels have 24 games on their schedule for the season, all of which will be played with other WHL teams in Alberta. Duels are played only on weekends from February 26th.
