Miami Heat Center mayor Leonard was fired indefinitely from the team after using the word anti-Semitic during a live broadcast on the Twitch platform on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old athlete uttered the hateful word after mocking a player he was facing in a video game. The sequence of this event was very quickly published on the web.
“The Miami Heat strongly condemns any form of hate speech,” the agency said in a statement to Mickey Arison Jews. The words used by Myers Leonard are unacceptable and we do not tolerate hate speech from those associated with our organization. ”
The NBA denied the athlete’s remarks, saying the investigation would follow. Heat indicated that they would cooperate on it.
Leonard’s 2020-2021 season ended just three games away with a left shoulder injury in February. The former Portland Trail Blazers rider signed a two-year, .5 19.5 million deal with the Heat before the 2019-20 campaign. The Miami club are likely to extend the deal for another year.
The lead man also apologized for his comments via social media.
“I deeply regret the use of anti-Semitic slurs during the live broadcast [mardi], He wrote. Even if I do not know what that word means, my ignorance (…) will certainly not forgive and I will be wrong. I admit my mistake. ”
