Engineers in the city of Montreal are preparing for a strike on May 31 to protest the municipal administration’s unwillingness to strengthen internal engineering expertise, their representatives have denied.
Professional Union of Scientists with Exclusive Practice of Montreal (SPSPEM), “The city continues to undermine its engineering expertise by refusing to hire experienced professionals,” said its president, Mary-Eve Dufour.
“Internal expertise is required, which allows control over the quality of the work undertaken and is a strong against corruption and corruption. Obviously, this is not a priority for the current municipal administration and it opens wide doors for external engineering firms, and the conditions that led to the merger,” she said in a statement Tap.
SPSPEM requests the intervention of Myers Valerie Plante to “correct past mistakes”.
A total of 530 experts affiliated with SPSPEM voted in favor of the strike on Wednesday, April 28. Most of them are engineers, but there are also some land surveyors, chemists and veterinarians in the union.
They have been without a collective agreement for three years.
