The Retirement Home (RPA) in Donacona, in Capitol-National, is battling a major outbreak of COVID-19.
A recent report shows 94 people have been infected with the virus since the outbreak began on December 22 at the O’Some home. 73 seniors and 21 employees were infected with the virus.
CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale confirmed on Friday that the establishment was in the Red Zone. However managers are waiting for details to find out the implications of this zone change.
Load shedding in chowder-appalaches
On the south coast of Quebec, hospitals will have to do more load shedding when they reach hospital capacity. 53 were hospitalized and 12 were in intensive care.
“Antibodies are not compatible with the omicron variant like the original virus. So our defense will be better with the third dose, but we need to understand that this protection is not as effective as it was initially with the first virus, ”said Benoit Barbeau, professor of biological sciences at UQAM.
CISSS de Chaudière-Appalaches has thus confirmed that the load shedding planned for the holiday season has been extended to January 10th. Load shedding repatriates health care workers and relocates them to hot areas to treat patients with COVID-19.
There is nothing to help the situation, 684 employees are currently away from the network in the area due to the virus.
