After more than two years of absence, cruise ships return to the port of Montreal, much to the delight of neighboring merchants as they thank tourists for visiting the Quebec Metropolis.
“Everyone is very optimistic this season. Everything seems to have suddenly returned to normal. And we take it! Said Ghisline Harvey, owner of the Ryan Montreal Souvenir Store.
The red container that serves as Mr. Harvey’s store is located directly in Old Port’s promenade. It is a popular destination for tourists, especially those who disembark from cruise ships that dock a few meters away.
The first ship of the season arrived Saturday morning, indicating that more than two years had passed without their presence in the city’s harbor.
“The sun came out and it was even hotter. It was a beautiful day to walk around. The problem is, we’re only going to be here for six hours, ”joked Larry Edland of Indiana, United States, a few minutes after landing in Montreal.
Drink and eat
A few feet away, Seasalt restaurant employees prepare to open their terrace in the Ru de la Commune.
“People coming down [des bateaux de croisière] They are happy to stop and eat and drink before continuing their walk, “said Gilles, the company’s assistant manager.

“Every summer, when they come, we’m very busy,” adds the owner of Van Winkle Sandwiches on Saint-Paul Street in Song Lu.
Profits in Rendezvous
“Cruise passengers are people who like to spend money when they get to a place,” Mr. Harvey noted happily.
“We’re looking forward to the return of cruises to Montreal!
After another two tough years, Gizline Smirry is looking forward to the 2022 season with a smile.
“I’m very optimistic, I’m looking forward to 2019. Saturday is my first day and my stocks are already low,” said Bowin & Hastings, store manager at Maple Products.
“It looks like tourists are coming back slowly, which is having a huge impact on our turnover [positivement] Confirmed Gabrielle Rowlard, waitress at Franklin Subs and Sudds Restaurant on St. Paul Street.
