I am committed to the independence of Quebec!

I was born a few months after the National Assembly approved the charter of the French language, when René Lévesque began his second year as Premier of Quebec. Today, at age 44, I still wonder how different my life, like that of all Quebecers, would have been if the sovereign party had not radically changed the political face of the people of Quebec to go from Canadian status quo. Minority to majority people at home.

I grew up in the debacle of 1980 public opinion and the forlorn hopes that followed. I was only 2 years old when Rene Levesque invited us next! The years have left this unquenchable determination to relentlessly pursue this dream for the rest of the world.

Sovereignty Project

In 1995, I was finally able to measure the concreteness of the project of sovereignty, which until then had seemed so abstract to me. Yes, the world can change. The people of Quebec can break out of the dormant rhetoric to finally embrace the reality of their emancipation. I understand that the power of collectively uniting toward a common project can move mountains. The desire for liberation and control of our collective destiny is the bearer of an inclusive project to ensure full control over the levers of our collective destiny.

Since then, defeat and betrayed promises to restore Canadian order have only perpetuated the decline of Quebec’s powers. Quebec has long tried, unsuccessfully, to integrate honorably into Canada. As author Rita Mae Brown summarizes, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result.” Please don’t buy into this madness of repeating the same mistakes and hoping for reforms that will never come in today’s Canada.

Quebec independence is needed more than ever. For it is high time for our people to speak with their voice to the nations of the earth; Finally we engage in the challenges of humanity without taking permission from another oil state that dominates our interests. Because our language is losing ground every moment and our dependence on Canada is the reason. For we must have more than enough to defend our laws voted in the National Assembly before a foreign crown which invalidates them according to its ideological moods.

Over time, my job as an artist allowed me to meet people from Quebec, French Canada, and all over the world. I was fascinated by hearing people tell their stories, their dreams, their people and their political contexts. Above all, small countries need to control the levers of the state to develop their collective prosperity and promote their cultures.

I am running in Rosemont for the Parti Québécois because I fundamentally believe that independence is the only political option for Quebecers to thrive as a people. I am running to proudly represent a major party that recognizes Quebec’s cultural, socio-economic and identity development.

This project should be alive

I invest to follow the aspirations of the people of my country, to realize their specific needs, their deepest ambitions and their dreams, individually and collectively. In the current global turmoil – from the climate crisis to growing social and economic inequality – the decisive actions and changes we need to make collectively can only be realized through an inspiring and unifying project that ensures the vibrancy and influence of Quebec culture: independence.

This project must be kept alive at all costs, evolving from time to time so that Quebecers of all origins and all loyalties regain strength in due time to show that there is no resistance beyond the land of freedom. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of René Levesque’s birth, it is our duty to revive the party he founded to continue this unfinished project. I am ready to take the responsibility of contributing to it with all of you.
