After more than seven months of monitoring, health officials have decided to forcibly evacuate nearly 200 residents of Floralies, two residences and CHSLDs, where elderly abuse and neglect have been reported.

“To ensure the well-being, health and safety of long-term residents, we have decided to move all residents to other living environments,” Jean-Francois Miron revealed on Monday. , CIUSSS de l’Deputy Director General Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and Acting Administrator of Floralies Lachine and Floralies LaSalle.
CIUSSS has assured that the situation has “stabilized” the two CHSLDs since they were placed under guardianship on September 1, but still considers it necessary to evacuate all residents. The company is expected to reveal more details about its plan on Tuesday.
The announcement surprised the Floralies team, who claimed to have learned about it only on Monday morning.
“This situation announced today is very concerning, given the impact such action can have on clients. For many seniors, Residences Floralis is the last residence of their life. Today they are being told that against their will, they will be exterminated, which will significantly change their life choices,” the administrators of the two settlements lamented in a press release.
“This measure is extremely disappointing after months of hard work by the Residences Floralies team to create several credible restoration plans,” we added.
After alarming revelations about abuse and neglect cases last year by TVA Nouvelles, an investigation concluded the situation was “unacceptable for consumers,” in the words of Health and Seniors Minister Sonia Bélanger.
Both organizations serve as residences, intermediate resources, and CHSLDs for seniors who have lost autonomy.
