100 million sapphire cluster discovered during excavation

The excavation carried out by the workers on the premises of the Sri Lankan house was very profitable.

A sapphire group valued at $ 100 million has been found behind the home of a jeweler, BBC News reported.

The 2.5 million carat gem is considered to be the largest cluster in the world.

“Well-dug people alerted us about the precious stones and then discovered a huge specimen,” said homeowner Mr Gamage, who preferred to discontinue his first name for security reasons.

The man reported the discovery to authorities last year, but it took more than a year to verify and clean the stone.

Although the town of Ratnapura – where the stone was found – is known as the capital of world gems, these experts still amaze the experts.

“I have never seen such a big model. It probably formed 400 million years ago, ”said Dr.r Gamini Joyce, a renowned gemologist.

Experts estimate that the gemstone, nicknamed the “Serendipity Sapphire”, is worth $ 100 million.

“This is a special star sapphire model, probably the largest in the world. Given its size and value, we believe it will be of interest to collectors and museums, ”said Tilak Weerasinghe, President, National Gem and Jewelery Authority.
