The University of Montreal has announced a “new chapter in its philanthropic history” with a $ 40 million donation from the Quebecore and the Chopin-Peladeau Foundation.
“This is a great day of celebration as part of UdeM’s great history book. With the unprecedented donation announced today, we are laying the foundation stone for UdeM to build a committed and responsible founding culture for tomorrow’s Quebec,” said Daniel Jutras, Rector of the University of Montreal on Wednesday.
He hopes other philanthropists will follow Mr. Pelado’s example and contribute to the university’s field of influence, and he wants to open a new door. It was, according to him, the largest donation ever made to a French-speaking university in the country.

“We receive about 14,000 donations a year from our graduates. The average donation is a few hundred dollars, ”said Mr. Jutras. The last major donation UdeM received was $ 12 million. “$ 40 million is not only unprecedented, it takes us out of our habits,” he said, glad to see the gesture.
Half goes to creating the “Millennium Cubecore” program, which is dedicated to training the next generation of entrepreneurs. It is offered in early spring.
“By participating in the creation of a connecting space and new entrepreneurial initiatives, we are committed to doing all we can to support and promote young talent,” said Pierre Carl Peladue, President and CEO of CubeCore. He wanted to honor his father’s memory with this donation.
The rest of the donation will be used to build a state-of-the-art pavilion in the future in honor of the founder of Quebecore, Pierre Pelade. The building, which is expected to be completed within five years, will house the future UdeM Innovation Center along with the Millennium Cubacore program.
“Today, education is a right,” Mr. Pelado underlined, recalling that it would never be so. “They are such people [mon père]And many in his time, provided us with collective ways to strengthen ourselves and control our destiny.
He also pointed out that one of the important teachings his father had given him was to help society “learn how to give back what we have received.”
