Fresh Pixel 5 teardown video Pressing the Internet shows how Google was able to get an aluminum-framed smartphone to work with Qi wireless charging and a few other Quirks.
Another new addition is a series of plastic clips on the inside of the screen, featuring a display for the rest of the phone. 9to5Google Note that some Pixel 4 units have had problems with the rear panel coming out, so these clips seem to be another measure that will help keep the device together when wearing adhesive.
The only thing connected to the screen is the vibration motor that acts as the under-display earpiece speaker, but beyond that everything else is connected to the main frame of the phone.
After the screen is removed, you can see the camera module, battery and some other hardware pieces. However, the wireless charging hole in the aluminum is the coolest part when the battery and charging coil are taken out. This is unique in that most phones with wireless charging have glass backplates. Since Qi chargers cannot transfer energy through metal, the Pixel 5 has a unique design that is coated in a ‘bio-resignation’ material with a hole in aluminum for wireless charging.
The hole is smaller than what I ined, but to my attention it looks a little thinner than the ring design that Apple uses in its Magsafe cases and chargers.
If you want to see more about the phone, you can see the full tear below.
