CUPE Local 3247 has been sounding the alarm for the past two weeks about the deteriorating situation at this establishment.

“As of today, there are about 50 patients in 73 residents – three have died – and more than thirty infected employees, and these figures continue to rise,” the union lamented in a statement released Tuesday.

Koop suspects that aerosol pollution is to blame for the spread.

“The employer has been questioned on several occasions and requested CNESST to intervene to shed light on the source of this outbreak, especially through a comprehensive inspection of CHSLD’s ventilation system,” said Simon Beaulieu. CUPE 3247 President. We asked that N95 masks be provided to employees who must work in these red zones. ”

Mr Beaulieu said he was referring to the first red zone at CHSLD Laurent-Bergevin, adding that a second red zone had been added as the number of cases increased. The first has a ventilation system to limit the spread of contaminants in adjacent areas, the second does not.

“Employees are concerned about their health and the health of residents, and we understand them,” the union president declared.
