Fight racism: Legalt government calls Bochra Manas appointment “wrong”

The Legalt government qualified as a “flaw” by Bochra Manas’ appointment as commissioner of the fight against racism by the city of Montreal, the state based on his past positions against the law on secularism.

“For us, this is a mistake in the city of Montreal. The Quebec government is already prioritizing the fight against racism, as evidenced by a report released last December,” said Prime Minister Franకోois Legalt’s office.

On Tuesday, the city of Montreal announced the appointment of Bochra Manas, who will become the first commissioner to fight racism and systemic discrimination from next week.

The position was created in response to the recommendations of a report introduced this summer that highlighted the city’s shortcomings in the fight against discrimination.

Om was praised by some because of his qualifications^{To me} Manas, his appointment statement was criticized by others for opposing the law on secularism.

Om^{To me} Manas, who holds a doctorate and two master’s degrees in urban studies, is the director of an organization fighting social exclusion in Montreal-North.

As a representative of the National Council of Canadian Muslims, she was one of the opponents who led the Law 21 challenge on secularism in court.

The trial of the law, founded by the coalition Avenir Quebec government, ended in mid-December. The decision will not be known until the end of February 2021.
