Joe Biden begins his term with a popularity that Trump has not seen

A week after entering the White House, US President Joe Biden received a rating of popularity that his predecessor Donald Trump had never achieved in four years in office, according to a poll released Wednesday.

According to a Monmouth University survey, Mr Biden polled 54% in favor, 30% against dissatisfaction and 16% against undecided, saying “Donald’s tenure is longer than ever during Trump’s time” in a poll conducted between January 21 and 24.

A Gallup Institute survey, shortly before the launch, found that the Republican White House began its presidency with a historic low of just 34%, a positive low of 45%, and reached 49% by the beginning of 2020.

Other polls suggest Joe Biden was well-received in the early days of his command: 56% for the Morning Consult and 63% for the Hill-HarrisX.

But Monmouth, like other polls, believes the president’s supporters and opponents are deeply divided over their political views. He received a 90% approval rating from Democrats, only 15% from Republicans and 47% from independents.

“Overall, there seems to be more sympathy for Mr Biden than for Mr Trump, but she follows really biased paths as more people than Mr Trump are now identified as Democrats. Like the Republicans,” explained the university’s polling agency, Patrick Murray.

According to Donald Trump, the first president to not have a “honeymoon” with Americans at the beginning of his term, the average popularity in the first six months of his tenure was 41.4%, with either Barack Obama (60%) or George W. Bush. Bush (53.9%) in their first half year.
