Zakhir, Bahrain – Max Verstappen kicked off Formula 1 season on Friday with the fastest time of the first free practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Mercedes driver Valteri Batas took 0.298 seconds from time, and McLaren Lando Norris took 0.503 seconds from time.
World champion Lewis Hamilton stood at the start of the session, but eventually finished fourth. Britain gave 0.527 seconds to Verstappen.
For his part, Quebecker Lance Stroll recorded the 13th fastest time behind the Dutchman in 1.839 seconds. In Aston Martin Racing, his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, finished 12th, ahead of him in the first session.
For his part, Toronto’s Nicholas Latifi finished 18th behind his Williams wheel.
The second free practice session will be presented later today.
Hamilton will be looking to win his eighth World Championship this season, allowing him to surpass Michael Schumacher (7)’s mark, with his 22-year-old son, Mick, piloting with Haas this season.
Mick Schumacher also finished 19th in the morning ahead of his Russian teammate Nikita Majepin.
