Huawei had the opportunity to exchange information with the Dutch Prime Minister

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei once said it had access to all Dutch government talks, including with the prime minister.

The revelation was contained in a report that has been kept secret since 2010, which was revealed by the Dutch daily “de Voxcrant” on Saturday.

According to the Dutch newspaper, the Dutch telecommunications company KPN has been using Huawei equipment since 2009 and also has permanent support for some employees of the Chinese company, which is based in the Netherlands.

However, in the investigation that led to the report, Huawei was able to hear all the traditions going through the KPN cellular network, which had about 6.5 million subscribers at the time. Huawei technicians have access to the heart of the telephone network and can listen to conversations between government members and the Prime Minister if they wish.

As a result of this report, KPN decided to limit its network management to other Western entities and to better protect its network.

The company responded to its revelation by stating that none of these vendors had access to controlled data.

The episode adds to the fears of some Western governments seeking to exclude Huawei from contracts to develop 5G technology in their respective countries, fearing action. This is particularly the case for the four Group of Five countries – the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia – which banned Huawei from their 5G network last year.

Canada, the fifth member of the Intelligence Alliance, however, has not officially banned Huawei from its network. Recall that Meng Wanzhou, the company’s financial director, was kept at home in Vancouver even after his arrest in the country, and she faces the process of extradition to the United States.
