Pfizer and Moderna: Cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported

In Canada and abroad, very rare cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported after injection of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-Bioentech and Moderna.

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle, while pericarditis is an inflammation of the lining of the heart. Their symptoms may be chest pain, shortness of breath or an uncomfortable heartbeat.

“The mRNA vaccine has been available in most cases reported so far [Pfizer-BioNTech ou Moderna] And, according to the analysis of foreign cases, it occurred more frequently after the second dose and in younger male adults and adolescents, ”Health Canada said in a statement released Wednesday.

The Federal Body wanted to reassure the population and state that “these reports are very rare.”

“COVID-19 vaccines continue to be safe and effective […] Protect from COVID-19. The benefits of COVID-19 vaccines continue to outweigh their risks, as scientific evidence shows that they reduce COVID-19 mortality and hospitalization, ”said Health Canada.

The federal agency and other international regulators are “continuing to examine the possible link between COVID-19 vaccines and these rare cases.”
