F1: Japan Grand Prix canceled for second year in a row due to pandemic

Tokyo | The Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix scheduled for October 10 in Suzuki (in the middle of the country) has been canceled for the second year in a row due to health issues, organizers said on Wednesday.

“After discussions with the Japanese authorities, the Japanese government decided to cancel the race this season due to the ongoing epidemic in the country,” the F1 World Championship organizer wrote in a statement from Formula One, the company.

Formula One is now working on revised schedule details “for Formula 1 season and” will announce final details in the coming weeks, “the statement said.

“Formula One has been proven this year, and by 2020, we can adapt to situations and find solutions,” she recalled.

The epidemic, which forced the postponement or cancellation of most international sporting events in 2020, also forced the reduction of several F1 Grand Prix schedules scheduled earlier this year in Australia, Canada, China and Singapore.

The Japanese Grand Prix counting for the MotoGP Championship, which is also scheduled to take place in October, has already been canceled in late June for the same reasons.

The Suzuki Circuit, featuring eight figures and a loop, spans the bridge track and has hosted 31 F1 Grand Prix since 1987.

In April, Japanese promoters and F1 officials announced that the race would remain on the circuit until at least 2024.
