“If it is handled properly, there is no reason for the situation to happen in Ukraine,” the former president said in a statement.
- Listen to Benoit Deutrizak’s interview with political scientist and columnist Loic Tassey on the Journal de Montreal on QUB Radio:
After the Russian president’s order to deploy troops in two separatist areas in Ukraine, he said, “I know Vladimir Putin, he will never do what he is doing now under the Trump administration!” He declared.
Donald Trump’s closeness with Vladimir Putin has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition during his tenure.
The Republican billionaire joked about the possibility of returning to the race for the White House, describing the sanctions currently being passed by the Biden administration as “weak.”
“They are very small compared to the occupation of a country and strategic lands,” the former leader alleged.
“Apart from getting what Putin always wanted, thanks to the boom in oil and gas, he has become richer and richer,” he said.
After the first careful sanctions, the White House promised to strengthen its response on Tuesday against Moscow, especially targeting pro-Russian separatist territories in Ukraine.
