“Changing the clock is an outdated concept that can cause frustration and confusion. It’s just stupid, there’s no other way to put it, ”argued Senator Marco Rubio, the bill’s author.

In Hemicycle on Tuesday, an elected official from Florida created a direct causal link between time changes and the increase in “heart attacks and car accidents”.

Daylight saving time “literally makes our lives darker,” said Sheldon Whitehouse, a state senator from Rhode Island on the east coast, where – with daylight saving time – comes at 4:15 pm on December night.

The sun rises during the daytime saving time … then sets.

However, the fate of the bill remains uncertain: it must now be passed in the House and signed by Joe Biden, who has the power to veto it. The President has not yet revealed his position on the file.

The main idea behind the time change is to compare hours of activity with sunlight to limit the use of artificial lighting.

But its opponents have condemned the negative effects on biological rhythms, especially in children.

On the other side of the Atlantic, leaving winter time is also in the pipeline: the European Commission proposes to abolish it in September 2018 … in 2019. But the European Parliament voted in March 2019 to postpone it to 2021. Then, the Kovid-19 crisis erupted and the file was pending.
