A party at Laval High School went completely out of hand Thursday afternoon, with 30 police officers having to intervene to control a crowd of about 100 students who had turned violent.
Tear gas, damaged police cars, spitting, thrown twigs … Here is a brief picture of a teenage party that collapsed at 1pm last Thursday at Horizon Junesse Secondary School in Laval.
“We got a call to get involved in this party which was packed with about 150 to 200 students. Our goal is to keep young people on the school grounds for their safety and prevent them from being hit by a car, for example, “said Laval (SPL) Police Department spokesman Lt. Genevieve Major.
With Big Kicks
Several videos related to the party were posted on Instagram at the end of the day. In the sequence, we see passionate young men surrounded by petrol cars.
“Students started throwing branches at our vehicles. After that the youths also kicked hard on our police vehicles. We called for calm with our microphones, but it was not heard, ”said Mrs. Major.
Public hearing
The latter alleged that a police officer was also forced to use his pepper powder as a “preventive gesture.”
A teenage girl was hit by gas, but was not injured.
“We are currently investigating misconduct on police vehicles. No arrests yet, but it will come, ”the SPL lieutenant confirmed.
The lieutenant major also suggested that SPL agents return to school on Friday and follow the party along with the youth.
The school explains
When contacted on the subject, the secondary school Horizon Junese confirms that it has organized “various activities in the last days to celebrate Intercultural Week”.
“Some students inadvertently feasted and created the overflow observed yesterday. […] We return today with relevant students to promote civility, civic responsibility and expected behavior in a democratic society, ”said Annie Goet, of the Communications Department at the Commission Schoiler de Laval.
The latter also stated that persons who do not attend this school in the Auteuil sector are more likely to participate in the program.
