Hundreds of Air Transat passengers have been stranded in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic since Thursday and complained they had been abandoned.
Flight TS399 was scheduled to depart from Punta Cana to Montreal on May 26, but was unable to take off due to a mechanical fault.
Passengers had to wait two hours before finally realizing that the flight had been canceled and they were being diverted to their hotel.
“We justifiably offered a $ 15 voucher to eat all day while waiting at the airport, without any help, news, information, contact. This is really scary, “said Vanessa Lemieux, a traveler stranded in the Dominican Republic.
Air Transat spokesman TVA Novelles confirmed that a new plane had been sent to Punta Cana and that passengers would return to Montreal on Saturday evening.
According to Air Transat spokesman Bernard Cote, passengers receive three US $ 15 vouchers for baggage at the airport and communications are transmitted every 30 minutes.
Twice a week
This is the second time in a week that passengers have been stranded abroad after an Air Transat flight was canceled due to mechanical problems.
On May 21, a plane carrying 220 passengers was stranded in Lisbon, Portugal for 24 hours due to security concerns.
