A sculpture and a door were observed on Mars

The Curiosity rover will continue its journey and will not fail to surprise scientists. This machine recently shot unusual objects on Mars. Thanks to the erosion of the Martian soils, a magnificent sculpture in the shape of a peak carved in stone emerged from Gale’s crater. In mid-May, a photo of a door-like stone hole was sent by Curiosity.

A paradolia

The picture in question does not clearly show the door, but the simple opening dug in the rock. Here, our brain plays tricks on us by trying to associate the image with the person we know. This is the paradolia. Photo reveals a kind of optical illusion that motivates us to find similarities with an object.

In a less literal sense, my science team is interested in these rocks as the “door” to the ancient past. As I climb this mountain, I see high levels of clay leading to salty minerals called sulphates – evidence of how water dried up on Mars billions of years ago.
