North Dakota’s only abortion clinic is going to Minnesota

After the Supreme Court quashed the judgment, Ro V. Wade, who legalized abortion in the United States, said the only abortion clinic still in North Dakota is going across state borders to move to Minnesota to continue its practice.

Located in Fargo, the Red River Women’s Clinic has been the state’s only provider clinic for 20 years, but is awaiting closure from Friday’s verdict, CNN reported.

“The plan is to provide services as long as we can legally,” clinic director Tammy Kromeneker told the media.

North Dakota is one of 13 states that have passed legislation banning abortion automatically if the Supreme Court reconsiders its interpretation of the Constitution. The law is expected to go into effect 30 days after it is certified by the state attorney general.

So the clinic chose to move about 15 minutes from its current location, but in the neighboring state of Minnesota.

While there is still a lot of work to be done, GoFundMe has already been created to raise money for the new location. By Saturday afternoon, more than $ 500,000 had been donated beyond the initial target.

While Friday was supposed to be a normal day at the clinic, the decision taken late in the morning changed everything on Ms. Kromeneker’s team.

“I saw the news on my computer and one of the staff yelled, we yelled and were very angry,” she said.

As soon as the phones started ringing for the patients who were calling to make an appointment.

“I had to make these appointments together,” the director said. “It’s a surreal and ironic moment.”

The clinic already has an influx of patients from South Dakota and Minnesota due to facility closures and staffing issues.
