According to a British magazine train box Citing sources working with the German manufacturer, the EQG is the first model to receive a new generation of batteries with significantly higher energy density.

Developed in collaboration with American firm Sila Nanotechnologies, the batteries have a 20 to 40% higher energy density than the lithium-ion batteries currently used by Mercedes-Benz. They use silicon anodes and a different chemistry.

This reduces the volume of the batteries and increases their dimension to suit different vehicles of different configurations. The fact that these batteries are used by the electric version of the G-Class makes a lot of sense. The ladder-frame SUV’s military roots date back to the late 1970s, a far cry from today’s electrification mainstream. Production of the model is scheduled for 2025.
