An Ontario woman who was sexually assaulted by former Headley singer Jacob Hoggard said Thursday that her life has been “broken beyond recognition.”
The woman, whose identity cannot be released due to a publication ban, spoke at the singer’s sentencing hearing, CTV News reported Thursday.
“I was a different person before November 22, 2016. I was never the same after that day, she said. A part of me that I will never find died that day. My life as I knew it was stolen from me and shattered beyond recognition. This attack took away my worth, my intimacy, my body, my faith and my voice.
As a reminder, Jacob Hoggard was convicted in June of sexual assault causing bodily harm in this case.
In her statement, the Ottawa woman explained that she chose to appear in court without the support of anyone close to her because she “couldn’t bear to put them through any more pain than they already have.”
The woman said, “The months after the attack were lonely and dark days [sa] Life”.
“I walked away from everything I loved,” she said. I missed important job opportunities at work. I lost important moments with my loved ones that I will never find again. I think that’s what hurt me the most. I disconnected from everyone I loved. The loneliness is unbearable at times.
The attacker’s sentencing hearing took an unexpected turn Thursday morning when his attorney raised issues with evidence in a forensic psychiatric report that names some of his sexual partners.
The next hearing will begin on October 14 at 10 am via Zoom. Mr. Hoggard will have an opportunity to speak at that time.
