Australian snowboard world champion drowns in diving mishap

Two-time environment snowboard champion and Wintertime Olympian Alex Pullin drowned Wednesday when spearfishing off Australia’s Gold Coastline.

A police spokesperson explained a 32-12 months-outdated male, later determined as Pullin, was unresponsive when taken from the water and died even with receiving CPR from lifeguards and unexpected emergency cure from paramedics.

The incident happened at Palm Seaside all-around 10:40 a.m. regional time. Pullin experienced been diving on an synthetic reef when he was found by a snorkeller.

“One more diver was out there and positioned him on the sea floor and raised the interest of close by surfers who sought lifeguards to carry him in,” law enforcement claimed. “He didn’t have an oxygen mask. We fully grasp he was no cost diving and spearfishing out on the reef.”

Flag-bearer at 2014 Sochi Olympics

Pullin, recognized by the nickname Chumpy, received gold medals in the snowboard cross party at the 2011 La Molina and 2013 Stoneham entire world championships. He was Australia’s flag-bearer at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

Australia’s winter season sports overall body Snow Australia explained it was stunned and saddened by Pullin’s dying.

“Our deepest condolences are with Alex’s spouse and children, as perfectly as his teammates and support team,” Snow Australia claimed in a statement. “Alex was a beloved member of the Snow Australia local community and he will be dearly skipped.”
