Kevin Owens: It all started with a VHS tape

This week, the host looks back at the amazing journey of WWE wrestler Quebecer Kevin Owens with an amazing career.

At the age of 11, Kevin Owens became interested in wrestling. It all started with a rented VHS tape from the Maryville Video Club where he lived.

“I was drawn from the beginning and I knew what I wanted to do in life,” Owens said in an interview with Denise Levesque.

Instead of curbing his enthusiasm, his parents encouraged him to indulge in his new hobby, going so far as to found him a wrestling school.

Classes began at the large Saint-Césaire.

“We wrestled a few times a week in the barn, and at one point the barn collapsed and the school was closed,” Wrestler recalled with a laugh.

At the age of 14, he made his way to Jacques Rugo’s wrestling school at Pro-Gym, where he learned all the basics of the profession that would guide him throughout his 22-year career.

Besides going to school and working, he doubles up on fights here and there, especially in the United States. These evenings, very little paid, allow him to see and get to know him.

“I made enough noise that eventually it was a guy named Triple H [dans la WWE] heard about me and gave me a chance to break through,” Owens recalled.

It was here that his career finally took off.
