Amber Heard has officially appealed the court’s decision in her lawsuit against Johnny Depp

Amber Heard has formally appealed the verdict in her defamation suit against Johnny Depp.

In a motion filed Nov. 23, the Aquaman actress asked for a new trial or to overturn a jury verdict in which she was found liable for defamation of her estranged husband and ordered to pay him more than $10 million in damages.

According to a document circulated by Deadline, the court “erroneously refused to dismiss this action… based on its erroneous determination that Depp’s claims were being tried in Virginia where the Washington Post’s servers were located.” , if it is appealed, Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against Amber Heard will have to be thrown out due to court venue.

“The trial court also erred in denying Heard’s no-confidence motion, in which she argued that her alleged statements were non-actionable expressions of opinion and lacked a reasonable capacity to convey the allegedly defamatory meaning… If this ruling is upheld, it will no doubt encourage other women who want to speak out about abuse by powerful men. Amber Heard’s legal team argued that the actress should appeal and toss out the ruling because she was telling the truth in a Washington Post op-ed published in 2018 that she did not defame her ex.

“This case should never have gone to trial because another court had already found that Depp had abused Heard on multiple occasions. After Depp filed this case, the UK High Court of Justice ruled that Heard’s allegations of abuse were true in a separate defamation action brought by Depp,” reads Amber Heard’s appeal request.
