CIUSSS is recruiting more than hundred attendants

Health officials estimate that about 100 beneficiary attendant positions need to be filled at CHSLDs and Maison des Aines in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

CIUSSS Recruitment Campaign has been launched as the new accelerated training will start soon.

Five cohorts will be formed to undergo three months of training starting between August and October. It is offered at the Vocational Training Centers of Chicoutimi, Alma, Dolbeau-Mistassini and Roberval.

New candidates can benefit from better scholarship. It ranges from 9,210 to 12,000 dollars. Future graduates must commit to work for CIUSSS for six months at the end of their training, rather than one year.

Candidates should have completed at least their third secondary

“We are looking for people who are motivated to help others, who want to work closely with the elderly. Also people who have teamwork at heart. It’s a very rewarding, very gratifying job. We know it’s a demanding job. These people are at the heart of our health network and we need them most,” said Nathalie Morin, CIUSSS du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Senior Workforce Planning Advisor.

Crash training has been around for three years, and so far the data is encouraging. About 400 people have registered for accelerated training in the last three years and 85% of them have been hired later.

Back then those who completed the training had to commit for a year. 88% of them completed their commitment and till date, 71% are still working as beneficiary attendants through CIUSSS.

This is the case for Guy Tremblay and Melanie Gagne, who currently work at CHSLD in Metabetchauan. They are from the first and second group respectively. Over the past few years, both have decided to change careers completely.

They maintain that the recognition and satisfaction they get from seniors every day gives them the will to continue on this path.

“When we put our resident to bed and thank us, there is a smile. He asked if he would be there the next day. It really makes us want to come and take care of them, they need people to take care of them,” Melanie Gagne said.

“It made me want to get back to work,” added Guy Tremblay. I have lost this joy in recent years. There I come to work, even on weekends, I come to work is pleasant.

After that the selection process starts. Currently, around 150 people have submitted their application and CIUSSS expects the enthusiasm to continue, as the needs are increasing, especially in the areas of Dolbeau-Mistassini and Roberval.
