You can test REM for free and here it is

On July 29 and 30, the general public will be able to discover and test the route between Montreal and Brassard for free as part of an “open house” operation prior to the REM’s official launch. Scheduled for July 31st.

This first REM branch with five stations connects Brossard, L’Île-des-Sœurs and Central stations. Free entry between 9am and 7pm on July 29 and 30 will “allow users to take the REM and tame it,” suggests the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

A number of activities are also offered throughout the weekend to highlight the initiation of this first stage of REM.

Two more construction phases are underway to extend the REM to Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue, Deux-Montagnes and Montréal-Trudeau Airport. Ultimately, the REM connects the various strategic centers of the metropolitan area, namely the South Shore, the North Shore, the west of Montreal, and the airport.

“By giving everyone a chance to see the benefits of REM, we hope consumers will embrace it on a daily basis. This free weekend is a pledge of our government’s support for public transport,” said Genevieve Guilbault, Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, on Monday.

For Economy, Innovation and Energy Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon, the arrival of REM will “revolutionize public transportation in Montreal”.

“Such an occasion has not happened since 1967 and it will be a defining moment for the metropolis and even for Quebec as a whole.”
