Brossard switches to LED lighting. From mid-September, the street lighting modernization plan will be extended across the territory, whereby 4,808 street lighting fixtures, currently sodium, will be converted to light-emitting diode (LED) technology.

The change will require an investment of $1.8 million, but the city estimates a reduction in estimated annual costs of about $349,000.

The aim of the project is to optimize lighting conditions and benefit from economic and environmental benefits – an LED bulb is 5 times more efficient than a high-pressure sodium bulb. Technology is helping to reduce energy consumption in the city.

LED lights also increase safety and make colors and shapes easier to perceive.
“The installed equipment is “Dark Sky” certified and reduces light pollution emitted by street lighting,” the city said.
