If Quebecers can still believe they’re in summer with the temperatures of the past few days, winter is still upon us and you shouldn’t delay making an appointment for your tire change.
Winter tires are mandatory from December 1, but it is often recommended not to wait until the last minute to fit them, especially in the garage.
This is especially true for drivers of new cars who need to change tire sizes and may have difficulty finding the appropriate model, CAA-Quebec said.
“The best choice of time slot, access to more tire models and above all, be ready for the first snow, however early it may be: there are only good reasons to make your appointment now,” recalls automotive expert and road test coordinator Jesse Caron, Wednesday.
CAA-Quebec also reminded them that changing their tires early in the season would be safe.
“Even if it’s 15 or 20°C occasionally, it’s a mistake to think that driving with winter tires too early in autumn will damage them,” he explains.
Generally, it is recommended to do this after several consecutive days around 7 degrees Celsius.
Also don’t forget to test your car battery and prepare a winter kit with a snow brush, blanket, shovel, flashlight and grip plates to deal with all the unexpected winter events.
