The argument for a possible Quebec currency doesn’t sit well with former Liberal MP Gayton Barrett, who instead believes there are a number of issues that have been underestimated on the economic scale of Quebec independence.

“I think it’s a big problem. About seven years ago, Pauline Marois said that if we achieve independence at the financial level there will be chaos, and today we have a budget for the first year that shows us only green valleys,” he explained.
However, Mathieu Boc-Côté believes that the Quebec currency will become a factor rather than one of the main arguments.
“Today, if we think that Canada is a dysfunctional economic entity, because the economic interests of the West are not the same as Ontario, they are not the same as Quebec, in this logic, the idea of the Quebec dollar is completely rational, but I do not think that the heart of the debate focuses on it,” said the political The columnist adds.
He also recalled the words of the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy.
” said Pierre Fitzgibbon himself [la semaine dernière] He preferred the American dollar. That means obviously the Canadian currency doesn’t inspire excitement even at the CAQ,” he said.
Gayton Barrett was quick to respond that this was “a bit of an extrapolation” for his comments, made shortly after he left the National Assembly.
