The Quebec Municipal Commission investigates the City of Montreal

TVA Nouvelles has learned that Quebec’s municipal commission will open an investigation into the city of Montreal after learning of a well-watered dinner party by the mayor and members of her cabinet in Vienna last April.

A delegation of about ten people from the Plante administration traveling in Austria used public funds to pay for eight bottles of wine.

Taxpayer money was used to pay the nearly $2,000 bill, a third of which, or about $550, was for alcohol.

The mayor, who participated in this study mission on housing, will probably be called upon to answer the questions of the commission’s investigators.

But the commission explains that its inquiries will be confidential.

Response from the Mayor

Valerie Plante admitted to the Quebecor investigation office this Tuesday that charging taxpayers for this alcohol purchase was a mistake.

She announced that she would pay back the amount taken from taxpayers’ pockets to pay for eight bottles of wine.

The inquiry may also be extended to the Office of Public Consultation, which has been under discussion for more than 10 days.

TVA Nouvelles has also learned that Dominique Olivier, former president of the Montreal City Executive Council, has now filed a complaint before the Quebec Municipal Commission.
