McCarthy was too old for Tetreault, forcing Jean Charest to switch law firms

McCarthy was forced to retire from Tetrault, and Jean Charest decided to join another law firm.

On Wednesday morning, the law firm posted on its website that Mr. Charest announced his retirement. “Jean wanted to continue practicing law as a partner, which was not possible after a certain age in our firm's structure,” we explained.

If he is too old for McCarthy Tetrault, the former prime minister, at 65, is not too old for another firm, Therrien Couture Joli-Coeur Group, which announced his appointment in a full press release.

“Welcoming a lawyer of Jean Charest's caliber will enhance our firm and bring a new dimension to our practice,” declared TCJ President and CEO Normand Therrien, before praising the former's “energy” and “strategist qualities.”

With the same enthusiasm, Mr. Charest expressed that this new chapter in his professional life is in line with the “common thread of his career”, which is to “always surround himself with the best talent to handle major projects”.
