Former traffic columnist Gabby Drolet has died at the age of 80

Former traffic columnist Gabby Drolet died Thursday night.

Well known to Quebec radio listeners, Mr. Circulation was suffering from cancer. Born on March 24, 1943, he would have turned 81 in a few days.

“Very tenderly, last night, my lover and life partner, Gabi Drolet, Mr. Traffic, left us peacefully at home with all his family,” wrote his partner Micheline.

A reputation

After leaving the Ministry of Transport, Gabi Drolet himself created his expertise and reputation in this field. The columnist started informing road users before long about the Internet, installation of traffic cameras and Waze application.

“He was a beast at work. He developed his color codes and he had a whole network of privileged contacts. He was totally dedicated to the cause of traffic day and night,” explained his friend and former news journalist Bruno Peron.

Former teammates paid tribute to him.

“Instead of partnering with the station, he had the good idea to set up his own company and provide services,” adds Jean Brouillard.

“Every time I leave, as soon as I get in the car, I call Gabi. I talked to him almost every day. He is not a star but he is famous! It was an important service and it did its job well,” concluded Jean Brouillard.

Over the years, motorists have been able to hear Gaby Drolet on several Quebec radio stations, including CJRP, CHRC, Radio-Canada and FM93.
