Wednesday's storm caused significant damage in Abitibi, where about forty power poles fell, mainly in Abitibi and Abitibi-East MRCs.

About 7,000 residents were without power Wednesday as the storm intensified.
The time to restore electricity is longer than usual in some places, due to the lack of an electric pole planting company in the area, explains Karin Godin, communications, community and relations advisor for Hydro-Québec.

The most significant damage was done in the fields of La Surrey, Palmerol, Poularys and Macamic.
The damage included downed trees, as well as building damage, according to Luc Gaudreau, director of the La Surrey Fire and Civil Safety Service.

According to Michel Fleury, a meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada, violent storms are not uncommon in the region at this time of year.
Additionally, no weather warnings are planned for this week.
Hence the region remains within its seasonal norms and no precipitation is expected for the next couple of days.
