A woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed multiple times in a random and unprovoked attack that caused chaos at the Miami airport Saturday night.
“They were able to calm down a little bit, but there was a huge panic and a lot of people were screaming,” a witness to the incident told CBS News on Sunday.
At 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Miami-Dade police were called to Miami International Airport where a woman was stabbed “several times” by a 29-year-old suspect who then tried to “throw her over the railing.” Terminal J, according to American media.
The victim, whose age has not been released but has been identified as Alexander Love, managed to escape the clutches of his assailant before running down the stairs to seek refuge on the ground floor, where he was helped by other witnesses.
According to CBS News, it is unclear if the victim and her attacker knew each other or if this was a random attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the scene caused chaos in the terminal, but it happened at a time when several flights had just landed.
“We heard the screams go up. And someone said “RUN!” So you literally had 100-200 people easily. [qui couraient] Because we just got off the plane,” another witness told American media.
While the woman was rushed to the hospital, according to latest reports her condition is critical, the main accused has been arrested in the investigation.
