A group of environmental activists blocked the Jacques-Cartier Bridge Tuesday morning demanding an end to fossil fuels.
Traffic on the South Shore side of Montreal was at a standstill and no vehicle could reach Longueuil like the traffic on the Montreal side.
Police forces were deployed to prevent the overflow, while members of the Antigone group attempted to climb onto the bridge structure.
Antigone Group spokesperson wants to send messages to authorities to refrain from “killing” fossil fuels.
Environmental activists are calling for the closure of particularly “dangerous” oil infrastructure.
