COVID-19 outbreak announced in Holy Trinity and St. Gabriel schools, two other schools find cases

Alberta Health Services announces COVID-19 outbreak at St. Gabriel’s School and Holy Trinity High School.

The Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) said in a letter Sunday morning At least two people connected to St. Gabriel’s School in Thickwood tested positive for COVID-19..

A letter sent Sunday afternoon was circulating at Holy Trinity High School announcing that the school had two active COVID-19 cases. The COVID-19 case was announced on September 19 and 4.

“The FMCSD letter states that Alberta Health Services will receive the AHS definition of the term ‘outreach’ from September 4 in connection with Holy Trinity Catholic High School, although not related to the September 19 case.

Health officials allowed the schools to remain open.

“We will not disclose the personal details of the person who tested positive for COVID-19 without respect for this person and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines,” each letter stated.

Individuals in contact with COVID-19 patients were identified by contact tracing. Virtual learning is available to any student in need of detention.

People connected to two other Catholic schools in Fort McMurray were also tested positive for the virus.

Parents and guardians at Sister Mary Phillips were told about the COVID-19 case on September 19th. On September 18 a case was reported to the families of Elsie Unique High School.

Those schools are also allowed to remain open.

The schools underwent additional cleaning this weekend, focusing on areas where people are.

As of Friday, 57 out of 2,415 schools in Alberta reported an attendance of about 2.3 percent, an infectious case school.

On Friday, two people at Waverly School in Edmonton, Alberta, tested positive for COVID-19 and reported it was the first case to be reported at the school.

Fort McMurray has 48 active cases, 167 recoveries and one death. There were four active cases in the rural areas of Wood Buffalo, with 60 recoveries and no deaths.

The next update on COVID-19 numbers will be Monday at 3:30 p.m.

FMCSD reminds parents, guardians, staff, visitors and volunteers to monitor COVID-19 symptoms and complete the AHS Checklist daily before school.
