“We want people to use the transportation that suits them best,” said CAA-Quebec spokesperson David Marsille in an interview with LCN. For him, the ideal scenario is a well-structured, fast and convenient public transportation network.

“Unfortunately that's not the reality for many people in Quebec,” he said.

So drivers must resort to another option: getting a vehicle.

“Having a car is essential, sometimes we live with it,” asserts Mr. Marsille.

These reasons come at a time when 43% of Quebec's infrastructure is in poor condition, according to a recent report by a committee of experts.

David Marseille also confirmed the increase in large vehicles, especially SUVs, on the province's roads.

“People who want to get small cars don't have the options they had a few years ago,” he says. He says many manufacturers have abandoned these models that fit a segment of the population.
