The Airbus A220 is in the Letter of Intent signed by Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for the purchase of 111 aircraft belonging to all families of the European giant. It is 25 A220-300, which must be purchased by an American company.
The announcement was made on Monday, the second day of the Dubai Air Show. Since ALC is an American company, the A220s must be assembled in principle on mobile, Alabama.
The main assembly line for the former Bombardier C Series is at Mirabell in Lawrence.
This letter of intent, signed by American Aircraft Rental Company, also provides for the purchase of 75 A321s, four A330s and seven A350Fs – the cargo version of the aircraft.
This is the fourth order for the A220 from the beginning of the year, if the contract is finalized by the end of the year. Last April, Airbus signed a deal for 20 A220-300s, the largest aircraft in the family.
The order for one aircraft was registered last June and at the end of September, Italia Transporto Areo, an air carrier born from Alitalia Ash, received another 15 from ALC and ordered seven A220s.
The program is controlled by a European giant, but the state of Quebec has a 25% stake. Airbus is working to accelerate the A220 production rate. The multinational company aims to mobilize 14 people per month for a total of 168 annual deliveries to Mirabell and Alabama by 2025.
