After nearly 50 years in Calgary the iconic ranchman leased the country dance hall

“For the first time in its history, this property is available,” The MLS list Reads.

Calls to the company on Saturday came with an automatic message saying “This number is temporarily unavailable”.

Ranchman was founded by Harris Dwarkin and Kevin Baker in April 1972.

The bar began as a self-service restaurant, but has grown into a dance hall and Calgary landmark with over 1,000 seats.

It has been named the Country Club of the Year sixteen times by the Canadian Country Music Association and has begun the careers of artists such as Paul Brand.

Also featured in movies like this Cool Running And Brockback Mountain.

For tens of thousands of patrons every year during the Calgary Stampede, the ranchman must visit – learning line-dance, listening to live country music, eating beef on a bun or riding a mechanical bull.

Following Dwarkin’s death in 2017, the bar was sold to a group of local business owners led by Dow Raspberry. Raspberry owned the Back Alley nightclub for over two decades before turning the place into the current incarnation of the Marquee Beer Market.

CBC News reached out to Raspberry representatives for comment and has not yet received a response.

Ranchman closed on March 17 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is not allowed to reopen as nightclubs are closed in Alberta.
