Card payment: Disruption of Moneris systems across the country

Moneris’ systems for processing debit and credit card transactions experienced a technical problem on Saturday, causing widespread disruption across Canada.

This is what many internet users first reported on X (formerly Twitter). Besides, the company’s website is also down, QMI Agency said.

In an email to the QMI agency, Moneris confirmed it had an “intermittent network outage” that lasted about 90 minutes earlier this afternoon.

“We have resolved the issue and transaction processing is back to normal. Merchants will experience slow transactions while systems resume operations,” said Darren Leroux, director of communications at Moneris.

However, more than an hour passed between the time the outage began and the company reporting the situation, which many have lamented.

“Come on @Moneris give us some info on why you’re down. Is it a hack? We have businesses to run and your lack of transparency is concerning. That’s why we cannot become a cashless society,” @Jordan RPALPAL tweeted.

For its part, Interac confirmed to TVA Nouvelles that all of its services were working Saturday, although more than 2,000 people reported the outage on the Downdetector site.
